Marupō Catcher Tee (pre-sale)
$35.00 Sold Out
This shirt features my idea of a Māori version of a dream catcher. It features harakeke piupiu, which is the dried and dyed flax used for our traditional clothing. The piupiu are hanging from my version of whakairo pūngāwerewere, the spider web pattern used by our traditional carvers.
In the centre is the captured dream, a Spaulding and Rogers Supreme Deluxe tattoo machine in glistening chrome. My all time favorite machine frame, the machine that i could only dream of owning as a young artist in Aotearoa many years ago.
The back features Māui and his brothers, in Te Waka-a-Māui as he pulls up the mighty Te Ika-a-Māui with his magic fish hook. These are traditional names for the 2 biggest islands in Aotearoa meaning Māui’s canoe (South Island) and Māui’s fish (North Island).
All artwork was designed and drawn by myself.
These shirts will be on pre-sale until May 1st. They will then be printed and shipped.
